"For the Sins of My Father" is a heartfelt look at how one man's life was destroyed by "the life" his father had embraced. The frozen body in the trunk is the reality. "In the real world, the gangster is an exhausted middle-aged man who comes home at dawn. "On the screen, the life of a mafioso is glamorous and exciting," DeMeo writes. In 1976 the Gambino family was thrown into chaos when long time boss Carlo Gambino died. It was there that he developed a deep hatred for the Mafia. During the mid-70s DeMeo and his crew continued to thrive, by making more and more money. Eventually, he was committed to a hospital suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. The cops were chasing him and so was his father's crew. There are more than one possible scenarios in which Roy was killed. It was then that Albert's own life fell apart. On pages 346-348 it discusses the last 48 hours of Roys life. In 1993, "Murder Machine," a book chronicling the DeMeo gang written by then Daily News reporters Jerry Capeci and Gene Mustain, was published. Albert's own life started to unravel - despite all his efforts to go legit.Ī wealthy neighbor took the young DeMeo under his wing and helped him get a job on the New York Stock Exchange. However, the trouble that Roy caused Castellano (after ordering DeMeos murder, Paul was later indicted because of Roys massive car-theft ring) precluded Gaggi from ever assuming the position. After that murder, Albert remembers his father breaking down and crying.Ī short time later, Roy DeMeo himself was murdered, his body discovered on Albert's 17th birthday. Gaggi was promoted to capo of Castellanos old crew and remained close to Castellano, hoping to become underboss eventually. Roy Demeo was buried at Cimetière Saint John 80-01 Metropolitan Ave, in Queens, Queens County. He recounts the occasion his father mistook a college student for a hit man, chased him down and killed him. Roy Albert Demeo was born on Septemat Flatlands in Brooklyn, comté de Kings County, NY États-Unis, and died at age 42 years old on Januat Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. But for a kid who essentially grew up collecting cash for his father, and hanging around the Gemini Lounge in Brooklyn, where many who entered never left, Albert's recollections about his father's penchant for bloodshed seem naive. When he was in the seventh grade, he carried a gun to school to protect his sister. When he was 9, at his father's urging, he fired a gun at a bogus assailant. But being with Roy DeMeo - even for his young son - meant slithering along in the chaotic underworld of John Gotti's Gambino crime family.
